Baby Shower
Traditions and Trends
Baby showers are meant to be adorable but certainly have their own traditions and trends. They
are events meant to honor the birth of a new baby where the mother and child are "showered" with gifts.
Many have come accustomed to the tradition of baby showers of old and many have taken on the newer trends
associated with this special occasion. As with most things in history, traditions have changed throughout the
years. The information below will provide you with some of those great trends and traditions that go along with
baby showers.
It is imperative to make note that some races do not celebrate with showers at all. Many believe that it is bad
luck to purchase things for a baby before it is born. Customarily, baby showers were meant for women only. Those
who hosted the party were close friends or relatives of the mother to be. Soon, showers included men and children.
Before long, Daddy Showers were taking place.
Tradition also dictates many of the activities that take place during baby showers. Games such as guessing the
gender and date of birth of the baby or the size of the mother's belly are always fun to play. Other entertaining
games to play are guessing the flavor of baby food or diaper tossing games.
A baby shower wouldn't be complete without the guests watching the mommy open gifts. Today, gifts given are
typically practical items that the mother can use for the baby. Years ago, gifts were mostly hand-made. Having a
ceremonial champagne toast is permitted to wet the head of the baby.
Throughout the years, trends have taken the place of the more customary activities during baby showers. Hosts came
up with more imaginative ideas for the cake, games, meals and themes. Yes it is true, even baby showers have taken
on different themes to add a little more excitement to the event.
Baby showers are meant to be joyful, festive events. Each baby shower host should work hard to make the event as
exhilarating for the mother to be and the guests. A baby shower should be memorable for a first time mom or one
that has experienced the birth of child more than once.
